Plymouth Valentines Mixed Doubles

16 February 2003

Back to Plymouth for another tournament. All the team were bowling in this event but not all under the Striking Home team name. Richard and Carrie bowled together and I bowled with Sandy Newth, Carrie's sister as Becky Goff was already bowling. Mike and Paddy Day also had found themselves partners.

Lanes 19 and 20 where Sandy and I started seemed quite dry and the hook bowlers had quite a bit of movement to cope with. They were still consistent however, and a line was possible. A move up the hous after three games found a slicker but still consistent condition. Richard and Carrie had started right at the top end of the house but were now on the pair adjacent to us, with Mike Day and his partner on the other side. I found the lanes still to my liking but Sandy, along with Mike and Paddy (all three left-handers) seemed to be struggling.

Six games over, the team placed as follows:
  • 7th Becky Goff, bowling with James Connor. 150 - 198 - 180 - 155 - 141 - 191 Scr 1015 Hcp 1171
  • 8th Richard Trevett 167 - 184 - 213 - 181 - 148 - 173 Scr 1066 Hcp 1210
           Carrie Newth    166 - 179 - 169 - 168 - 151 - 171 Scr 1004 Hcp 1172
  • 11th Mark Harvey   192 - 169 - 219 - 171 - 205 - 194 Scr 1150 Hcp 1282
  • 18th= Mike Day      181 - 190 - 128 - 148 - 158 - 196 Scr 1001 Hcp 1139
  • 18th= Paddy Day     224 - 169 - 202 - 161 - 150 - 140 Scr 1046 Hcp 1176
out of a total of 27 teams.

The event was actually won by Becky's younger sister Kali, bowling with Dave Tompson with a handicap doubles total of 2548.

Well done to everyone who took part and many thanks to Allen Marshall and the team at the Plymouth Megabowl for running the event.
