Angela Morey Trios - TorquayNovember 2002 - New team, new venueFollowing a decision to try and help more bowlers locally bowl in more tournaments, The Manics have been renamed to Team StrikingHome.co.uk and new bowlers have joined the team. The team lineup now comprises Mark Harvey and Richard Trevett as before, plus Carrie Newth, Becky Goff and Mike and Paddy Day. For various reasons, including a late decision to enter, only one entry was possible to this trios event so Ricahrd, Carrie and I (Mark) went, with Becky Goff bowling for another team. Each team had to contain at least one lady bowler. Torquay was a new tournament venue for the three of us and the lanes proved to be quite wet, a resurface having taken place just two weeks previously I was told. The first section was a Ladies Singles, so Carrie started, bowling 188, 147 and 159 on a challenging condition. Just before the start, I had taken advantage of Bryan Harding (Pro Shop One) being present and purchased a new Brunswick Shock Zone which was on special offer (Sorry I beat you to it Richard). Richard and I then bowled a doubles section, bowling 1130 sctatch (1280 handicap) between us which was second on the day. Thanks Bryan - that ball made the pins fly! Straight into the trios team event, we bowled well together and had some good (and bad) luck with pin carry, hitting 1676 scratch (1895 handicap) to place third out of the 16 teams. Our team position in the overall standings at the end of the event was an outstanding second place. Richard was our highest scorer, hitting four more pins than me scratch. Well done Rich.
Once again - a fantastic result, especially considering that the three of us had not bowled together as a team before. Back to Cornwall for a celebration, before gietting down to some practice with the whole team. Thanks to Brian Parker and his team for running this enjoyable tournament. |
